The new website for Fire in Florida’s Ecosystems (FIFE) makes it easier for educators to access the information and materials they need to teach about fire in Florida. www.fireinflorida.org

Educators of all types, subjects, and grade levels can register for free workshops, view the curriculum activities and student worksheets, and download teaching PowerPoints, videos, and other resources. Free workshops are open for registration and we are booking more at facilities around the state. If you would like to host a workshop in your area or be notified of upcoming dates, please sign up to let us know.

Updates to the program this year also include 2 new lesson activities, a new poster, and a new look.

In the new activity “What is the Role of Fire in the Carbon Cycle?” students learn by “traveling” through the carbon cycle and forest fires in Florida as a carbon molecule. In “Fire and Florida’s Natural Habitats” students learn about fire dependent ecosystems and create a fire management plan. The new poster “Florida’s Fire Dependent Ecosystems” explores the habitats, plants, and animals that live with fire.

FIFE is a program of the Florida Division of Forestry that is implemented by Pandion Systems, Inc. FIFE began in 1999 and has reached over 2,700 educators in more than 90% of Florida counties through free workshops and curriculum materials. www.fireinflorida.org
