Inventory
and Assessment of K-12 and Professional Teacher Development
Programs
NOAA, National Estuarine Research
Reserve System
Pandion conducted an inventory of
the K-12 and professional teacher development programs for the
National Estuarine Research Reserve
System. Based on a needs assessment focus session with education
coordinators, Pandion designed and conducted electronic
surveys of education coordinators, reserve managers, research coordinators,
and stewardship coordinators. We then conducted follow-up telephone
interviews with education coordinators at 25 Reserves, and performed
in-depth site visits and interviews at several Reserves.
Pandion
developed recommendations for improved program evaluation and
performance
measures, as well as program design and implementation. The assessment
examined how NERRS’ programs integrate with state and national
education standards, and recommendations were made for national-level
support, capacity building activities, a national program “niche,” and
system-wide programming in the areas of K-12 education and professional
teacher development.
Pandion also assessed the implications
for a national “niche” or system-wide program for NERRS
and identified potential program dissemination models for a national
program. View
