The user-friendly manual is targeted at diverse audiences from
elected officials and planners to developers and homeowners.
The manual includes clear guidelines
to best protect homes, businesses, neighborhoods, communities,
and new developments from the threat of wildfire while protecting
forests and natural resources. Also included are Florida-specific
recommendations for planning strategies to
reduce wildfire risk; fuels management alternatives; fire-resistant
landscaping and building construction; timber management practices;
and social/economic cost-benefit analysis results.
Case studies are included
throughout the guide to give readers a sense of wildfire mitigation
projects
that have been successfully completed, including
fuels management, public involvement, public education, natural
resource
and landscape
analysis of wildfire history and hazards, GIS and remote sensing
