Carla Ebeling is a wildlife ecologist at Pandion with 7 years of experience in wildlife and ecological studies, assessment, mapping, and management.
With a love for nature, Carla pursued a career path that has kept her outdoors conducting environmental assessments for state and federal agencies, the private sector, and academic institutions.

Carla holds a BS (2003) and MS (2006) in Biology from Angelo State University in Texas. Her master’s thesis concentrated on the ecology of skunks in western Texas. Other species assessments that Carla has conducted include: Black-capped Vireo (Vireo atricapilla), Lesser Prairie-chicken (Tympanuchus pallidicinctus), sand dune lizard (Sceloporus arenicolus), and fishers (Martes pennanti).

Carla’s education and experience in habitat suitability for a variety of species makes her uniquely suited to conducting avian and bat surveys of wind resource areas. She is also skilled at working with private landowners on conservation issues such as endangered species habitat management. She is currently working with Environmental Defense and the USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service on a cost-share incentive program for the preservation and enhancement of endangered songbird habitat in west-central Texas.

Carla has traveled to work on a variety of ecological studies including mammal surveys in Australia, carnivore monitoring in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, bat studies in Big Bend National Park, mammal and herpetological surveys of Texas Army National Guard training sites, and numerous mammal collection expeditions for natural history museums.

In addition to field work, Carla enjoys presenting research findings at professional meetings and to public audiences. She is a member of several professional organizations including The Wildlife Society, Texas Society of Mammalogists, American Society of Mammalogists, Southwestern Association of Naturalists, and the Australian Mammal Society.

Carla’s other interests also reflect her love of nature and the outdoors. She enjoys living and working on her family’s west Texas ranch where she is managing livestock and wildlife to successfully coexist. She also enjoys gardening, live music, and backpacking trips.
